To My Best Friend

By Roma Dikshit

I sat next to your for three consecutive years,

But I didn’t figure out your name till eighth grade,

You’re the girl who helped me bury the treasure

In the backyard with a shovel and spade.

When we first met it was just a casual glance sideways and an exchange of hi’s

But today you are the only person who can tell apart the truth from my lies.

You are the climax of the world’s greatest mystery,

That is why our friendship will be history,

For all the people far and wide to see,

That without each other we cannot be.

We’re best friends and that is something no one can ever change.

That’s why I’ll stand by you through thick or thin through sun or rain,

You are the one, who’s made my life worth living,

Forever caring, sharing and giving.

But as our destinies unfold,

Some day you and I will say our last goodbyes,

But that just means that I will wait

For you to turn around and mutter never say bye.
