Even in this year 2010 which is celebrated as International Year of Biodiversity,are we maintaining that mark ? Have we done something for our biodiversity and Ecosystem?these still remain unanswered questions for which we can to find answers only as time passes.

This year which has gone halfway through has so far come across disasters like deepwater horizon oil spill in Gulf of Mexico, Dissappearing of coral reefs etc. These can mean much to our ecosystem and our nature .

Eventhough Green technologies and Green economy is dev elo[ping at a faster rate, it has come to a situation that the marine ecosystem and biodiversity are undergoing a serious threat.

Two-fifth of the planets most significant marine environment,a stunning expanse of coral reefs stretching across south-east Asia has been lost,and rest is likely to dissappear by the end of the century,a World Wildlife Fund report warns.

Pollution,over fishing and climate change are rapidly destroying the coral reefs.An area known as Coral triangle ,which covers an area of about half the size of United States and home to more 30 percent of worlds coral's and marine biodiversity is being depleted due to above said reasons. Philppines which comes under this is estimated to be home to two million species of animals,plants etc and is now listed as one of the “world's hottest hotspots”.A Hotspot is an area whose high biodiversity is gravely threatened.If the present trend of destruction continues Philippines wildlife will be notable for it's absence .

Similarly the Deep water horizon oil spill which took place in Gulf of Mexico since a drilling rig sank of the Louisiania coast on april 22, 2010 is gravely endangering the marine ecosystem and biodiversity as the heavy metals in crude oil have been a cause of disrupted marine food web in that area .

Studies indicate that as the biodiversity depletes the temperature in atmosphere increases rapidly leading to global warming and so called problems which can cause serious damages to human life on earth.

So with these in mind let's work for making this year a memorable one by protecting and saving our biodiversity and live for it.
