MIRS TRIP BY CLASS VIII
The management of Maharishi Vidya Mandir organized a one and a half day educational field trip for class VIII on the 6th and 7th of March 2009 at Maharishi International Residential School (MIRS), which is situated in Santhavelur, Sriperumbudur, in the Kanchipuram district, Chennai.
The school is spread over 65 acres with sprawling greenery in all the directions. The students finished their Maths cycle test and boarded the school buses at about 9:45 am and had a great time in the buses.
We students sang, danced, and enjoyed a lot on the way. This was the start of a one and a half day trip full of masti, fun, enjoyment etc.
The buses carrying the students reached MIRS at 11:15 am and after some light refreshments, the boys and girls were shown their respective dormitories. The boys and girls were grouped section-wise, i.e. A-D, B-E and C-F.
The first activity for the students was swimming for the boys of A-D, craft for B-E and worksheets for C-F. Meanwhile, the girls of A, D and F had their movie session- Chak De India, while the other girls rested in the dormitories.
Later, there was the craft activity for the students of A-D. Meanwhile, the students of B-E had their worksheet session and the students of C-F had a bash at the swimming pool. The girls of A-D had the tangram activity (in which one has to make something with triangles and squares by arranging the shapes accordingly) and the girls of B, C and E had their movie session.
After that, there was the tangram activity for the boys of A-D, swimming for B-E and craft for C-F. The girls meanwhile had their lunch.
After lunch, girls of A-D had craft, B-E had worksheet session and C-F had their craft session. After that, the girls of C-F had tangram activity while the other girls rested and the boys had their lunch.
Then there was the games session for all the boys and the girls of A, D and C. The girls of B E and F had gone swimming. After an hour, the remaining girls went for the swimming session while the other girls rested. The boys were still enjoying games!
Later, we had light refreshments like tea, biscuits and masala vadai. All this was on till about 7 in the evening.
The biggest highlight of the trip was the campfire which started at 7:15 pm by the 4 torch bearers. The students had the time if their lives for about two hours- i.e. 7 to 9 pm. They sang, danced, laughed, played and made merry. After that, our computer teacher, Mr. Muruganandam, presented a comedy show and our Sanskrit teacher, Mr. Balaji, performed a very touchy and emotional ballet dance, dedicating it to the father who lost his 6 month old son in the Mumbai Carnage of November, 2008. Then our special activity teacher Mrs. Sasikala Vijaykumar forwarded the message of Martin Luther King Jr. "spread love around the world" to the students and the campfire came to an end with it.
Next, it was dinner time. Everybody was hungry! In about one hour, everyone had eaten their fill and were ready for the moonlight walk.
The moonlight walk was very peaceful for all the students and they were led by Mr. Ramalingam, our headmaster till the school gates.
After they returned from the walk, everybody was tired. A good night sleep was what everybody needed. Everybody was tucked in bed before 10:30 and the day came to an end.
The next day, everyone was on their feet by 5:30 and was ready for the Physical Exercises class. They had jogging, stretching, running and Yoga among many others.
Later, there was the movie session for all the boys. After the 1 hour movie session, all the students were taken round the school and the surroundings. They were also shown watermelon fields and a deep well!
Then, after breakfast, the students had their sports session from 10 am to 2 pm. There were various outdoor sports like cricket, basketball, football, volleyball etc.
After lunch, the students were told to pack their belongings and take rest. They were to go back to Maharishi Vidya Mandir.
The school buses arrived at 3 pm and the students boarded the buses by 3:20 pm. The buses left MIRS at about 3:30 pm. The students bid goodbye to MIRS for the time being.
The trip at last came to an end when the school buses screeched to a halt at MVM. This was the best trip ever for the students in the whole year
