BOOKS THAT CHANGED MY LIFE
When the words ‘a book’ are uttered, a new surge of excitement swirls through me. A book, according to me is a place where the soul thirsting for wisdom can take refuge in. A book is a medium where you can travel without moving. It can transport you to many places while your body remains still. All you need to do is take in all those tranquil words and visualize it. It then turns frisky upon reaching the depths of the mind and is left up to you to depict your own masterpiece. Books have been a part of my life, and a part of me embeds into each book. It is in turn replaced by a morsel of the book so that I can keep it to rely upon.
Little Women by Louisa May Alcott is a book which made me get a fresh perspective of the human nature. The book, containing realistic incidents is enough to turn a heart as hard as stone to a heart as soft as rose petals. It taught me the wonders of poverty- a fact that happiness is not the outcome of money. I now believe that people can be merry and content even if they aren't in the lap of luxury. It taught me how anger is a wicked enemy of the soul and subduing the fury, wrath and envy results in peace and blissfulness. It paved out the honest path- where one must carry on the burdens with unwavering faith, silently doing their duty and finally be all set to reach the goal of the mind. I'm sure that if the burdens are carried eagerly, they will soon slip off and all the hurdles will be passed in the wink of an eye. So, I reckoned the benefit of each little bundle I carry. This book has brought out a tragic event in a very mystical way. It proves that even death can't separate two living beings from each other. The one who has left the world will always take shelter in the hearts of their dear ones. The warmth in the young girl's life still remained even after she was long dead. A sweet aroma of her presence presided through her home. It triggers something in me and made me try to give up some of my indolent ways. It reminded me how sometimes sorrow and hardships can purify the soul and make it stronger .I've learnt that a hand must always be spared to lend for help. I soon realized a fact that most people deny- it's no shame to shed a few tears and accept your faults instead of bottling up your feelings. I've made it a point to have eternal faith in the Almighty, through this book.
Another book which I've come across and read many a time -since it of has given be an urge to seek for more is Belle Teal by Ann M. Martin. The images of a poor girl ,a friendless African American boy ,flashes through my mind whenever I am reminded of this book .The strength that flows through the family of three women is one to be looked up in awe .Mere richness doesn't produce pleasure. It is the affection of all the family members entwined together that makes a home full of joy. Taking great initiatives so that other people may have the fruit of the labours is a great and unselfish act. I’ve seen that once selfishness is cast away, the benevolence triumphs.
I’ve learnt that forgiveness is a vital essence of bravery and likewise so is asking for forgiveness. When you ask for pardon and humble yourself there is definitely no harm to your dignity or pride. In fact it enhances the self-respect and alleviates the respect other people have for you. This book led an insight into the fact that 'appearances may be deceptive 'and true beauty doesn't lie outwardly ,but in the flamboyance of the mind and heart .While some people steer 'clean away' from a particular person just because they are weird ,they may not know the reasons behind acting queer. And just because someone doesn’t fit in a group, that doesn’t mean they are not important .I've reckoned that every one of us has an important role to play and that is how nature works. No one can be sure of what lies beneath another person's skin, for beneath the show of joyfulness may be a layer of sorrow that is ever so clandestinely hidden that you wouldn’t be able to find it. One of the most important values is graciousness, and that has made me try to instil it. It proves that truth is the only solution and truth alone succeeds. The meeting with truth is rather astonishing at first, but later it develops into a relief. I’ve learnt to put troubles on the softer side for they may soften the soul, invite patience and develop someone into a better person.
