JOY OF LIVING - NSS FEST

By Minakshii Borana

Someone once said “Hands that help
are holier than lips that pray.”
Keeping this as our Motto for the NSS
club, we put together a successful
NSS fest where we had food stalls,
game stalls and a few accessory stalls.
Even though NSS has made it a point to have this fest every year, since it
started, this year it was a huge success. The class announcements finally paid off
and all the students got enough money so that each of them could contribute to
this noble deed. The fest started early in the morning at around 10 though the
preparation took much, much longer. We all
had the food ready and each every stall was
a huge hit. Principal ma’am herself came
along with Yamuna ma’am and Usha ma’am
to inaugurate the fest. Mansoor Sir also
came for the fest. The biggest hits were the
Vada-Pav stall and the Nacho stall. The games stalls ranged from lighting the
candle with one matchstick to throwing the wet sponge in the hole. Though the
fest lasted only for a few hours, the day of the fest was planned for almost over
a month! Money was collected from each NSS student so that we could get the
stalls built up for the fest. Announcements
were regularly made in classes and
assemblies so that people could contribute
for this good and charitable deed. Students
of NSS club arranged for different stalls and
each stall was arranged according to the classes (from 9th to 11th.) The first to
arrive for the fest were the 11th and 8th standards who generously bought many
food items and different show pieces and played many games. Next to arrive
were the 9th and the 10th graders followed by the 5th, 6th and the 7th standards.
Initially the 5th, 6th and the 7th standards were not supposed to come for the fest
but when we saw that a lot of these kids were actually eager to help us to help
the poor, they were allowed to see the stalls for a few minutes. However they
could come only towards the end by which most of our food and gift articles
were over.
The fest lasted only for a few hours. It was
mainly because most of our resources had
gotten over and it was time to go wrap up and
go home. When the teachers counted the
money totally collected, it was found that we
had a total of 50 thousand! It was probably the most delightful moment for ALL
the students of NSS club because of the effort we had put into it. The money
collected was sent to a charity named Fame India. If given a chance all of us
would love to do this noble deed again and again because every penny we spent
was worth it in the end.
