Why do we need Discipline?

Discipline means obedience. Accepting the norms of the family, society, the commands of elders and obeying them is discipline. It is also the training of mind and character and developing self control. The universe itself depends discipline the stars, the planets the earth on which we live, the moon and the sun move according to a system of discipline. Even plants and animals too observe discipline in their lives. Only man who has a thinking power finds it difficult to observe discipline.

Though discipline starts at home, there is much more need of it in educational institutions. Schools are nursing places for various virtues and values. Discipline in the class room in the playground etc., develops the character of a student. Force has no place in student’s discipline. Students observe discipline by acceptance. A self-disciplined teacher controls every student in every aspect. It is said that “child is the father of man” child of today will grow into an adult in future. The seeds of the future society are in the children of present day. If these children are self-disciplined automatically the society in which we live is controlled and produces only positive results.
