David Beckham,Cristiano Ronaldo,Carlos Tevez ..The 3 have something in common.All 3 have left Manchester United after earning a name for themselves and becoming world class players under the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson.A new name who was almost included in this list was that of Wayne Mark Rooney.The Liverpool-born Red Devil scored a whooping 34 goals in all competitions missing the Golden Boot very narrowly to Didier Drogba of Chelsea.He rose to such a level that people started comparing him to Pele,Maradonna and other legends of the beautiful game.But a disappointing World Cup,a host of personal problems,a number of career threatening injuries and the constant media pressure led to a poor start to this years season.This led to further speculation about his future.Later he announced to the World that he was going to leave Manchester United,the club which had given him so much to him and where he had made a name for himself.He even criticized the United team saying that they lacked quality.This created a stir all over the world and many had predicted Manchester United to do badly. But 2 days later,in a move which shocked the World,he signed a new contract which would keep him at Old Trafford till June 2015.

After joining the Red Devils for £25.6 million in 2004,he showed a lot of promise scoring a hat-trick on debut.But the 2006-2007 season was when Rooney proved to be a master class where he and Portuguesse star Cristiano Ronaldo tormented defenders all around the world.Many expected Rooney to struggle after Ronaldo left for Real Madrid in 2008,but it wasnt to be.Rooney took the responsibilty on his shoulders and single handedly took United to a very close finish in the Premier League.After a disappointing World Cup,and a series of personal allegations and controversies which followed,he was under the spotlight and media pressure for all the wrong reasons.He came under criticism for deciding to leave the club which had done so much for him and even going on to criticise his team mates.But after his public apology and the extension of his contract,the anger of the fans reduced.But still Rooney has to do a lot in order to win back the hearts of all the people around the globe who support one of the best teams Manchester United.

The contract extension was a great news for all United fans and the team would certainly receive an increase in morale as they look to chase down league leaders Chelsea and claim their 19th premier league title which would also create a new record of maximum number of premier league titles overtaking Liverpool who have won it 18 times.
