Earth Day Everyday...
Greetings for the Earth Day. It’s the fortieth anniversary of the Earth Day. Let’s celebrate and rejoice while we can….. I mean till this beautiful planet continues to support life. Clouds of peril endangering the very existence of the earth loom large and the doomsday, environmentalists and scientists predict may not be too far.
Unfortunately it is we, the human beings who have, through our unabated, unthoughtful, insensitive and greedy actions endangered not only the existence of this unique planet but also that of all the living creatures!
The observance of the Earth Day during the last forty years has surely helped to create wide spread awareness regarding environmental issues and the wise use of natural resources. Even then, the planet continues to be in a precarious state. Why is it so? Largely, because, we have not been able to transform the ‘awareness’ that we possess into concrete actions. It is high time that we begin to ACT-conscientiously and sincerely- to save our planet.
Infact, when we think of the Earth Day we should think of recycling, think of reusable fabric shopping bags, think of energy conservation, think of the plight of polar bears and think green. We needn’t be fanatic environmentalists but committed individuals who genuinely practice Reduce…Reuse…Recycle not only in the use of natural resources but also for all possible items of daily use. Surely, then our garbage bins will not be overflowing with paper, plastic, metal or glass items thrown away thoughtlessly. Undoubtedly adopting healthy habits can go a long way in maintaining the health of our planet.
Let us then pledge to follow one environment friendly habit each month and add another to it the next month. Let us vow to be the role models for spreading awareness and inculcating eco friendly habits amongst our fellow beings. Everyone’s small actions when added together will indeed make a world of difference!
I hope the soaring temperatures this summer would act as a constant reminder of our resolve to live through each day of our life as the Earth Day.
Meanwhile, happy holidays to all. Keep smiling and remember to keep the bountiful mother earth smiling too!
